Maryland may wrap up offshore bill this week

Maryland’s legislature this week may wrap up final approval of a bill that will provide a 20-year taxpayer subsidy for development of an about-200MW wind farm off the state’s Atlantic coast.

The House of Delegates and Senate recently passed the Maryland Offshore Wind Energy Act of 2013 by 86-48 and 30-15 votes, respectively, which was introduced by Governor Martin O’Malley. The Senate, however, did so with several amendments.

The lower house, where it originated, must now either concur with them and then send the bill to O’Malley for his signature into law, or it will go to a conference committee where three members from each body will try and agree on final wording.
