London Array becomes world’s biggest offshore wind farm

A Siemens turbine at the London Array

The UK’s London Array has become the world’s biggest operational offshore wind farm, as the consortium building it continues to bring more turbines online.

A spokeswoman from the consortium which runs the project – made up of E.ON, Dong Energy and Masdar – says that the wind farm now has 141 operational Siemens 3.6MW turbines, for a total capacity of 507MW.

The first phase of London Array will have 630MW of capacity when all 175 turbines are brought online in the Spring. The final turbine was installed in early January.

A London Array second phase, which is currently seeking approval, would take the total project to 870MW.
