Shrinking OMM blames cabling 'disarray'

OMM installed the inter-array cabling at Greater Gabbard

Offshore Marine Management (OMM), a leading cabling specialist and surveyor within the European offshore wind industry, says it will undergo a “significant” restructuring programme, including a reduction in its permanent staff and the consolidation of its offices to Cambridge.

OMM blamed delays to key projects – “especially in the renewables sector” – for its decision, claiming that the cabling sector’s near-term prospects are “in disarray”.

Germany’s well-documented offshore wind problems may be at the heart of OMM’s decision.

In November 2011 the company won a four-year contract with TenneT to provide project management, consultancy and other services for its offshore transmission programme in the German North Sea.

TenneT’s inability to deliver those projects on time has led to damaging delays and cost overruns throughout Germany’s nascent offshore wind sector.
