Work underway at Gwynt y Môr

Construction of the 576MW Gwynt y Môr offshore wind project in the UK Irish Sea is on track, says project partner Stadtwerke München (SWM).

The consortium building the wind farm will within the next six months start erecting its Siemens 3.6MW offshore wind turbines, Christian Vogt, head of the M&A department at the Munich utility told Recharge.

“We are largely within our planning,” Vogt said. The wind park is scheduled to be operational in 2014.

SWM holds a 30% stake, with RWE Innogy holding another 60% and Siemens 10%. The companies have already put 80 of a planned 160 foundations into the seabed.
