Centrica to 'advance wind, not nuclear'

Offshore wind will be a focus for UK utility Centrica following its decision not to be part of the country’s nuclear new-build programme, reports claim.

Centrica decided not to exercise options it held to take a 20% stake in four UK nuclear projects in conjunction with France’s EDF due to “uncertainty about overall project costs and the construction schedule”. 

The company has instead decided to focus on progressing its 580MW Race Bank development off England’s east coast, as well as gas and North American investments, says the Financial Times, citing a well-placed source.

The UK government granted construction consent for Race Bank last July.
