Taiwan starts offshore wind push

Taiwan is eager to move its wind capacity out to sea

Taiwan has started its offshore wind push by awarding grants to three companies to build more than 300MW of capacity.

The companies include Taiwan Generations Corporation, which plans to install 30 turbines with 108MW of capacity 11km off the coast of Changhua county at Fuhai.

Formosa Wind Power will also build a 108MW project, 5km off the coast of Miaoli county, while state-owned utility Taiwan Power will build a 108MW-150MW wind farm.

Each of the developers will receive 50% of the capital for two pilot turbines, and up to 250m Taiwan dollars ($8.4m) to develop the larger wind farms and install an offshore met-mast.
