NJ to get 3GW offshore wind link

New Jersey will be the site for the first phase of a plan to bring future US east coast offshore wind output to shore, with work starting in 2016, says the project company.

Atlantic Wind Connection says the New Jersey Energy Link will be a 3GW subsea transmission cable spanning the state’s shore.

Work will take place in three phases, with the first expected to be in service by 2019.

The project team claims the work will pump $9bn into the New Jersey economy.
