ABB gets $55m Dudgeon cable work

ABB has won a $55m order for the submarine cable at the 400MW Dudgeon offshore wind farm off eastern England, the Zurich-based company said.

The power and automation group will design and supply two 132-kV AC cables, each of 42km, running from the wind farm’s offshore substation to Weybourne Hope, near Sheringham, Norfolk.

The cables –among the longest yet ordered for a UK offshore wind project – will be manufactured at ABB’s factory in Karlskrona, Sweden, with delivery starting in 2016.

Dudgeon is a joint project by Norwegian partners Statoil and Statkraft, who have already worked together on the nearby Sheringham Shoal wind farm.

Last month the developers said they will use 6MW Siemens turbines at the wind farm under a deal that will also see the German group supply O&M services.

A final investment decision on Dudgeon is expected in the third quarter.
