US finds $10m for wave power R&D

The US Department of Energy (DoE) has opened its coffers to bolster its embryonic marine renewables sector with $10m for new wave power and resource characterisation technologies.

A prize of $6.5M will be awarded to prototype a wave-energy conversion device, while the remainder of the funding will go toward the development and testing of hydrokinetic sensors, instruments, and processing kit.

"Through the two funding opportunities the department is supporting design, manufacturing, demonstration, and testing of sustainable, environmentally responsible marine and hydrokinetic energy devices and components," the DoE says.
