The wind farm consists of 80 of Siemens' 3.6MW turbines and is located 23km north of the German island of Helgoland.
Bad weather last autumn delayed completion of the plant, Jens Assheuer, managing director of WindMW, which is building the project and will operate it, said late last year.
The €1.2bn ($1.65bn) Meerwind project had suffered grid-connection delays, and also had to face costs of between €10m and €15m to clear unexploded debris from World War II weapons lying at the bottom of the sea.
