The €1bn ($1.36bn) development, situated in depths of 16-26 metres eight kilometres off the northeast coast of England, will mark the first use of the German company’s larger-rotor version of its 6MW turbine, which has been running onshore at Denmark’s Østerild test centre since last autumn.

Dong's investment decision means construction at Westernmost Rough will begin next year, with switch-on in the first half of 2015.
