The facility, at the Dörpen West substation, in the Neiderrheinregion, will be a hitching post for power coming in via the 165km DolWin1 export trunkline at the higher voltage rating of 320kV.

The power technology group credits the advance, which sets a newstandard for voltage-sourced converter  HVDC applications – whichcurrently have a maximum installed rating of 200kV – to breakthroughs inconverter technology, a new valve concept, improved semiconductor performanceand advanced control systems.
