The Seattle company, which has had a 2MW prototype of its semi-submersible concept turning off Portugal since early 2012, was awarded a $4m US Department of Energy (DoE) grant late last year for a project based around five of its platforms outfitted with 6MW Siemens turbines operating at an ultra-deep-water site 16-24km offshore.

Slated to be on line as early as 2017, the WindFloat Pacific project is in the running to be the first multi-turbine floating wind development off the US.
