The offshore wind sector loves to think big, and turbine makers are no exception. Last year Vestas – which currently sells its 3MW V90 model into the offshore market – upgraded plans for its development-stage V164 offshore turbine from 7MW to 8MW.
Siemens acknowledges it is looking at a “larger platform” than the 6MW model it recently installed at Dong’s Gunfleet Sands, and GE is building a facility in Denmark capable of testing nacelles of up to 10MW.
