Marubeni, in cooperation with the University of Tokyo, is leading a group of 10 companies planning to test the design of floating offshore wind systems over five years. The Japanese government is providing ¥22bn ($232m) in funding support.
The 2MW Hitachi turbine mounted on a semi-submersible platform will be put in the water on 26 June. The project group will begin towing it from the port of Ichihara, Chiba prefecture the following day.
