Greater Gabbard was due to be completed in 2011 – well before fellow UK mega-project the London Array – and enjoy a year or so basking in the title of world’s biggest offshore wind farm until its 630MW peer was finished.
In fact Greater Gabbard – a joint development by German utility RWE and SSE of the UK – has been exporting power from all its 140 Siemens turbines since September 2012 – but legal issues surrounding the project took longer to resolve.
