E.ON is currently installing scour-protection for the foundations that will support the 288MW wind farm’s 80 3.6MW Siemens turbines.
The company is using containers of geotextile sand in the scour-protection process – used to prevent currents from displacing sand around the bases of foundations.
E.ON claims it is a pioneer of this approach, which draws on techniques used in river and coastal protection, and offers significant logistical and cost advantages.
