Moventas acquires David Brown wind

Moventas has taken over the wind gearbox operation of David Brown Gear Systems, creating a new company called DB Wind UK.

The deal includes David Brown’sUK-based production unit and test facilities, and creates what Finland-basedMoventas claims is an operation in prime shape to serve the needs ofmanufacturers designing multi-megawatt offshore wind turbines.

Moventas and David Brown are bothowned by UKprivate equity group Clyde Blowers Capital (CBC).

CBCacquired Moventas in late 2011.

Moventas said DB Wind UKwill continue David Brown’s drivetrain development work for Samsung’s 7MW offshoreturbine.
