The third-generation, 1MW wave-riding machine is heading for tests at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's wind technology center in early 2014.

“We wanted a company like Siemens that could provide a solution from existing technology, in order to reduce risk and shorten our commercialisation timeline,” says CPT chief executive Reenst Lesemann.

The StingRay generator, which will be able to delivery 1.5MW at peak output, will be designed in line with an existing segment motor construction kit to sit around the circumference of the buoy with a built-in 7.5-metre air-gap.
