Tekmar gets Westermost work
Offshore contractor Tekmar Energy has landed a cable protection contract for Dong Energy’s Westermost Rough wind farm off the UK.
Tekmar Energy, headquartered in Newton Aycliffe, will provide bespoke coverings to protect the 35-turbine development’s infield and export cables from exposure to loads, deformations and fatigue during installation.
“This is a significant project for us to be involved in and the fifth time we have worked with Dong Energy,” says Tekmar chief executive James Richie.
Its system has “a range of benefits when compared to more traditional cable, installation and protection,” he claimed, including a remote installation method.
Located off the coast of Hull, northeast England, the 210MW Westermost Rough wind farm will cover an area of 35 sq km. The development, part of the UK’s Round 2, will be the first to use Siemens 6MW SWT-6.0-154 turbines.
Over the past five years Tekmar has installed more than 2,000 cable protection systems, and has a further 1,000 in design or manufacture for the 26 wind farms it has been involved in across Europe.
