Ming Yang 87MW China offshore win

Turbine manufacturer Ming Yang said it has won a deal to build and equip 87MW of the 100MW available in an offshore wind tender held for development in China’s Guangdong province.

Ming Yang will supply 29 of its 3MW super compact drive (SCD) machines to a plant to be built near Zhuhai Guishan Island.

The project will be developed by Southern Offshore Wind Power Joint Development Company, a unit of China Southern Power Grid.

Ming Yang told its investors it will provide “a complete technology and construction solution including WTGs, turbine towers and foundation structures as well as project management”.

Work is due to begin in October this year and be finished by the end of 2014.

Ming Yang said the deal – which is still subject to final “definitve agreement” – marks an important milestone in the development of commercial offhore wind in Guangdong province and in China.
