Alstom 6MW installed off Belgium
Alstom claimed a new milestone in the offshore wind industry after completing installation of its 6MW Haliade turbine off Belgium.
The Haliade 150 – the largest turbine yet deployed at sea – is in place at the Belwind offshore wind site off Ostend.
Alstom has been carrying out trials on its first 6MW prototype in Le Carnet, France, since March 2012.
Once commissioned the Belgian turbine – installed this weekend after several reschedulings – will allow the French group to put the machine through its paces in an offshore environment.
A consortium led by EDF Energies Nouvelles and Dong Energy, with Alstom as its industrial partner, has €2bn ($2.45bn) plans for the three French offshore zones it won in April 2012, giving it a total capacity of 1.43GW.
Alstom is also signed up to supply a Haliade for the UK Energy Technology Institute's floating tension-leg platform demonstrator, to be installed off southwest England.
