Areva declined to comment on the report in financial newspaper Les Echos.

The turbine maker and GDF are scheduled to make an announcement tomorrow in Paris regarding the tender.

Areva’s largest machine in development is its 5MW M500-135, which is in the midst of testing at an onshore site in Germany.  Featuring 66-metre glass-reinforced plastic blades, the turbine will have a rotor diameter 19 metres wider than current production model M5000-116, with a swept area of 14,326 square metres.
