Strabag plans Able foundation plant

Austrian construction group Strabag has lined up the Able Marine Energy Park (AMEP) in northeast England as a production site for gravity-based foundations for the offshore wind sector.

The group’s Strabag Offshore Wind unit signed a memorandum of understanding naming the planned Humberside facility as preferred location for mass production of the foundations.

AMEP  is currently awaiting final planning consent from the UK government – a green light that has remained tantalisingly elusive for some time but is due any week now.

The UK government has previously said it is “minded” to approve AMEP, which said it could create about 4,000 jobs as a base for the UK’s fledgling offshore renewables industry – of which up to 500 could come at the Strabag plant.

The AMEP site is on the south bank of the River Humber, downstream from the Alexandra dock where Siemens is contemplating building a factory for its 6MW offshore wind turbine.
