Vestas powers-up at Hopefield, SA

Danish wind group Vestas has commissioned the first turbines at the 67MW Hopefield wind farm in South Africa – its largest project to date in the country.

Vestas won a turbine supply and EPC contract at the Western Cape wind farm from developer Umoya Energy in 2012.

It will commission a total of 37 V100-1.8 MW turbines at the site.

Hopefield is one of the first wind farms to be built as part of Round 1 of the South African Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer (REIPP) programme
