Statkraft has signed a power purchase agreement with RES for 22MW of onshore wind capacity in Great Britain, as it looks to offer developers “viable alternatives” to selling their power to the UK’s Big Six electricity firms.

The PPAs, which will last up to 15 years, cover the recently completed Meikle Carewe project in western Scotland, and the Tallentire project in northeast England.

RES will continue to own and operate the two wind farms, with Statkraft taking all the electricity and the renewables certificates generated.

Tim Foster, head of renewable origination for Statkraft, says the company continues to see “considerable growth opportunity” in UK wind.

“We look forward to working with future partners looking for a viable alternative to the Big Six with their PPA contracts,” says Foster.
