Mauritania taps Gamesa for first wind

Spanish group Gamesa will take wind power into new territory after clinching a deal to deliver 30MW of turbines to Mauritania.

Gamesa will equip the country’s first commercial wind farm following the agreement with Spanish EPC group Elecnor, which is building the Nouakchott  plant for local utility Somelec.

The manufacturer will deliver 15 of its G97-2.0 MW to the West African nation and supply O&M services for 11 years.

Turbine delivery is due in the early part of 2014 with construction of the wind farm beginning mid next year.

Gamesa said it now has 860MW installed in Africa, including Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt.
