Wind bodies join for 2030 call

The heads of 13 national wind energy associations from across Europe meeting in Spain today made a united call on the European Commission to adopt a binding 2030 renewable energy target.

It was agreed that binding European renewables targets have been a major factor driving the success of the wind sector in becoming a mainstream energy technology.

“By giving investors certainty, a compulsory 2030 renewables target will allow the wind sector to continue to grow and provide green jobs and revenue at the lowest cost for Europe”, says Thomas Becker, the chief executive of the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).

The Madrid meeting, set up by EWEA, which is driving the wind sector’s work on 2030 targets, was hosted by Luis Polo, the chief executive of the Spanish Wind Energy Association.
