French group EDF has commissioned the 144MW Fallago Rig onshore wind farm in Scotland.

The project, on the Lammermuir hills in the Scottish Borders, uses 48 3MW Vestas wind turbines.

It was developed by the UK arm of the French utility giant’s renewables unit, EDF Energies Nouvelles, which acquired original developer North British Windpower in February 2012.

Fallago Rig ran into early problems when the UK Ministry of Defence claimed it could interfere with military radar systems, but that obstacle was removed when the RAF installed new technology.

EDF said the wind farm adds to 18MW of smaller projects brought into service in the UK this year.
