MPI Offshore says its Adventure vessel is set to begin installing 40 Areva turbines at the 200MW first phase of Trianel’s Borkum offshore wind project in the German North Sea.

From second-quarter 2013, the UK-based MPI will load the 5MW turbines out of the harbour at Eemshaven, in the Netherlands, before transporting them 45km north of the island of Borkum.

The Adventure jack-up vessel recently performed installation work at EDF Energy Renewables’ 62MW Teesside offshore wind farm, near the mouth of the River Tees along England’s northeast coast.

The Borkum project — delayed due to grid connection issues — appeared to move back on track last month after Areva delivered the turbines to Eeemshaven.
