Swedish wind sector urges 2030 ambition

The Swedish Wind Energy Association (SWEA) claimed it is possible for Sweden to have a 100% renewable-based electricity sector by 2030, as it called on the country’s government to set a new wind-power target for that date.

There are no economic or technical obstacles for a transition to electricity production entirely based on wind, solar, biomass and hydro by the end of the next decade, SWEA concludes in a new report.

SWEA wants the Swedish National Grid to draw up an action plan over how to reach the government’s target for 30TWh of wind power by 2020 – and to see the level of ambition for the expansion of renewable electricity raised, underpinned by the government setting a new target for 2030.
