Achim Berge says construction at Butendiek will start next spring

German developer WPD expects to receive a general construction permit for its 415MW Kaikas wind farm in the North Sea in the next two months.

Achim Berge, managing director of WPD Offshore, tells Recharge he cannot say when the company will get approval for other two offshore wind farms that are still in the planning phase – the 985MW Aiolos and the 265MW Notos.

“We’re concentrating on Kaikas,” he says. “Later, there will also be conclusions on Aiolos.”

The federal maritime and hydrographic agency, BSH, grants general permits for offshore wind farms after public hearings and consultations with environmental groups that often can take years.
