Danish police probe Siemens wind plant blaze

The plant makes Siemens blades

Police are investigating whether a fire at a Siemens wind blade plant in North Jutland, Denmark, was a result of arson.

Five mandrels stored in an outdoor area at the plant in Aalborg caught fire on Sunday afternoon.

The mandrels, used as moulds in the blade production process, created a thick black smoke, but the blaze was soon extinguished and nobody was injured.

A spokesperson for Siemens Wind Power says the mandrels were not in use and the incident has not affected production. “We are producing at full steam.”

A spokesman for North Jutland’s police tells Recharge a firework was found near the scene and could have been responsible.

“We are currently investigating the reason for the fire and whether it was started deliberately,”…
