Areva sees positives offshore and in bioenergy

French power group Areva saw a mixed performance from its renewables operations last year.

Areva’s Renewable Energies business group made a €59m ($77m) loss before interest, tax, depreciaton and amortisation (Ebitda) in 2012, compared to an €85m Ebitda deficit in 2011.

Areva’s growing offshore wind and bioenergy units both returned positive Ebitda performances, Areva said, but the renewables business as a whole suffered the impact of execution difficulties at unspecified solar projects.

Revenue from its renewables operations grew last year, delivering €572m to the group's coffers in 2012, up from 2011’s €297m.

The French company expects that to grow to about €1.25bn by 2015/16.
