Enercon says German plan endangers transition

German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon has stiffened its opposition to a government plan to limit support for renewable power, claiming it could stop the nation's energy transition in its tracks.

German environment minister Peter Altmaier and economics minister Philipp Rösler last week proposed a series of harsh measures designed to freeze the surcharge on electricity bills that finances feed-in tariffs (FITs) for renewables.

Enercon is the biggest supplier to the German onshore wind market, and therefore heavily exposed to the plan, which includes a cut in FITs for new onshore plants to €0.08 per kWh from about €0.09 per kWh now.
