Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München (SWM) are starting construction of the 288MW DanTysk wind farm in the German North Sea.

The Swedish company holds a 51% stake in DanTysk, with Munich utility SWM holding 49%. Total investment costs will be more than €1bn ($1.34bn), SWM says. The project is planned to be fully operational in mid-2014.

“Construction processes at sea logistically are very demanding, and we hope that favourable weather conditions prevail to be able to erect all 80 foundations by August,” Vattenfall project leader Holger Grubel says. “Starting in the summer... we will also erect the first wind turbines.”
