RWE gets OK for 48MW Wales project

RWE npower renewables’ 48MW Mynydd y Gwair wind farm in Wales has been narrowly approved by local councillors, even as the industry flags up deep concerns about the state and trajectory of the potential-rich Welsh market.

Swansea Council on Thursday approved npower’s project by a vote of 27 to 24, after the UK subsidiary of German utility RWE redesigned the wind farm to use 16 turbines rather than the initially proposed 19.

“A previous application reached public inquiry in 2011, and we’ve remained convinced that this is a good site for a wind farm,” says npower’s Gwellian Elias.

“It is well designed, within a designated TAN 8 area, remote and with excellent wind resource.”
