New German wind 'up to 3.5GW this year'

Engineering body VDMA Power System expects a further boost to new German wind installations this year, with up to 3.5GW added.

It estimates between 2.7GW and 2.9GW in new onshore wind capacity will be installed in 2013, Thorsten Herdan, the VDMA’s spokesman for energy policy, told Recharge.

“Another 300MW to 600MW will be added in offshore,” Herdan added.

Last year, the German wind industry grid-connected 2.44GW of new capacity, including 80MW offshore, figures announced jointly last week by VDMA Power System and Germany’s Wind Energy Association (BWE) showed.
