Enercon opens Austrian tower factory

German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon has started series production at its new concrete tower factory in Zurndorf, in Austria’s Burgenland state.

The plant achieves a weekly output of 45 concrete tower segments for the E-101/3MW wind turbine series, and in the future will produce 24 tower segments a day, Enercon said.

"That equals a complete concrete tower,” Enercon said, adding that the plant has been designed for a maximum annual production volume of about 200 towers.

It will supply projects in nearby southern Germany, Hungary, Romania, Croatia and Poland, as well as Austria itself, where Enercon says it has a market share of 50%.
