Korea's LS Cable gets Dong UK order

Korean group LS Cable & System says it has secured an order from Dong Energy to supply the UK’s Westermost Rough offshore wind farm.

LS Cable & System claims the deal makes it the first Korean firm to break into the European submarine cable market.

The €16m ($21.7m) deal will see it supply 150kV submarine cables and 150kV/275kV extra high-voltage onshore cables, plus associated systems, to the 210MW Westermost Rough project, which Dong confirmed last week will go ahead off the northeast coast of England.

The Korean group says obtaining an order in the backyard of established industry heavyweights Prysmian and Nexans marks a breakthrough for its global ambitions.
