Areva renewables sales up in 2012

Revenue from offshore wind was up sharply

French engineering giant Areva saw revenues almost double at its renewables division last year.

Areva’s Renewable Energies business unit pulled in €572m ($781m) in 2012, 92.3% ahead of the year before.

The company said revenue from offshore wind was “up sharply with the progress of the GlobalTech 1 and Borkum West 2 projects in Germany”.

The construction of concentrating solar power (CSP) projects in Australia and India also played its part.

But Areva said the renewables group’s backlog fell by half to €844m at the end of 2012, partly because of cancellation of bioenergy orders in Brazil.
