EBRD backs Polish wind farm

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will finance the construction and operation of the 22.5MW first phase of a wind farm project in Orla, eastern Poland with a loan of up to 94m zloty ($29m).

At full capacity the wind farm will grow to 37.5MW and consist of 15 Nordex N100 2.5MW turbines.

The first phase of the project is expected to be finalised in December this year, while the final stage is scheduled for completion in mid-2015.

The EBRD last year backed the construction of 103MW–worth of wind farms in northern Poland, due to be finished in September 2016.

To date the EBRD has invested more than €1.1bn in nearly 50 projects across the region, to help reach the 20% share of renewables in the total energy mix by 2021 mandated by the Polish government.
