Senvion claims 10GW milestone
Germany-based wind turbine group Senvion said it installed 1.4GW of capacity last year and has passed the 10GW installation milestone thanks to further additions in early 2014.
Senvion – which is owned by Indian wind group Suzlon and was known as REpower until recently – talked up its global credentials as the EWEA 2014 wind power event gets underway in Barcelona.
The majority of the company’s capacity is in Europe, with 7.5GW installed onshore and offshore.
Most of that is in Germany, with 2.8GW, added to by 1.5GW and 1.1GW in France and the UK respectively.
But the group said it has successfully spread its wings into North America, Asia and Australia.
Senvion CEO Andreas Nauen said: “Turkey, India and Japan are other interesting markets we have our sights on.”
However, it has not all been plain sailing for Senvion. In February it confirmed that a lull in German offshore wind orders would force it to put some staff at its PowerBlades unit on short-time working.
