Hopefield, a 37 1.8MW turbine development in the Saldanha Bay area of the Western Cape, is among the first wind farms to be built as part of Round 1 of the Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer (REIPP) procurement programme.
The REIPP programme "has stimulated market investment here in exactly the way it was intended”, says Jason Rowan, manager of Mott MacDonald’s power business in South Africa.
