London-based GreencoatCapital, which will manage the fund, tipped its hand last month when it said ithoped to raise at least £205m, selling shares at £1 each.

Both the UK’s Department forBusiness, Innovation and Skills (BIS) – keen to see long-term investors buyinto operational renewables assets – and the utility SSE committed themselvesas cornerstone investors.

BIS stuck to its initial £50mcommitment, although the strength of appetite among outside investors meantthat SSE scaled back its own buy-in to £10m.
