A consortium made up of the Danish developer, turbine maker Siemens, research outfit DTU Wind Energy andAvent Lidar Technology has spent three years developing the system, called the Wind Iris, as analternative to the complex and expensive practice of carrying out power performancechecks using meteorological-masts.

“Measurements of windturbine power curves are a key issue for the wind industry. But conductingpower performance verifications with met-masts is often difficult and extremelyexpensive, particularly offshore or in onshore complex terrains, which meansthat verifications and measurements are sometimes skipped all together,” saysAvent
