Google has signed a 10-year deal for power from the Maevaara wind farm project in northern Sweden, the US group said.

The electricity will be used for its data centre in Hamina, Finland. The agreement is Google’s fourth renewable power supply deal for its worldwide data centre network, and its first in Europe.

The long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) allowed Swedish developer O2 to secure 100% financing from German insurance giant Allianz, which will take over ownership when the project is completed in early 2015.
