Investment in renewables significantly increased in emerging markets in 2012 but globally it fell due to reduced equipment costs and policy instability in some industrialised countries, say REN21/UNEP.

According to the reports, sharp investment increases were seen in South Africa, Morocco, Mexico, Chile and Kenya, with the Middle East and Africa showing the highest regional growth of 228% to $12bn.
