Shadow energy minister Tom Greatrex said a target will be included in Labour’s manifesto for the 2015 national election.
Adoption of the target has become a live issue in the UK, with renewable energy supporters accusing the ruling Coalition government of fudging the issue by deferring a decision on decarbonisation in new energy legislation. An attempt to lever a target into the Energy Bill narrowly failed earlier this month.
