Ikea opens new wind farm
Ikea has opened its third wind farm in Poland.
The 26MW, 13-turbine project at Rymanów, in the southeast province of Podkarpackie, was built by Martifer Renewables.
In 2011, Martifer sold two other Polish wind farms to the Swedish furniture group, which paid about €87m ($116m) for the three projects.
Ikea’s chief sustainability officer, Steve Howard, describes the wind farm as “an important step forward” in the company’s efforts to become energy-independent.
Meanwhile, Martifer Solar is building a 5MW PV plant in Ukraine for Rengy Development. The project, at Tomashpil, in the central Vinnytsia region, is funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Martifer will be responsible for operation and maintenance.
